Betfair Plans to Withdraw from Canadian Online Gambling Market
UK based online gambling group, Betfair will soon merge with Paddy Power and will no longer provide services to Canadian players announcing its exit from the market as of January 14, 2016. As of January 14th, Canadian punters will be unable to register or wager using existing accounts. All pending wagers will be cancelled and balances returned to players. All existing players residing in Canada are instructed to settle account balances by the deadline of January 14th. Betfair sent the following notification email to its Canadian players: "We are sorry to inform you that as of 14th January 2016, Betfair's products will no longer be available to residents of Canada. "On 14th January 2016 Canadian residents will no longer be able to place bets and Betfair shall close its website. All outstanding Sportsbook bets will be cancelled, you will no longer be able to place new exchange bets and all gaming products will be blocked. Please note that all outstanding Exchange bets will remain in place until 14th January 2016, so please ensure you manage any positions you have open in advance of this date." The merger between the companies will be complete in the new year. As a result of the merger, the mega company will be dubbed Paddy Power Betfair with headquarters located in the Irish bookmaker's home of Dublin, Ireland.
