Back Premier League: Everton in takeover talks

Everton are currently in talks with a United States-led consortium of investors about a potential takeover of the club in a deal worth 200 million pounds. The group of investors is led by John Jay Moores, former owner of the San Diego Padres baseball club, and Charles Noell. The two businessmen have held talks with current Everton owner Bill Kenwright after having previously been interested in joining Swansea City.

The investors are expected to check the club accounts during the next few weeks, but the Toffees have not issued any statement related to this. Bill Kenwright has owned the club for 16 years but is believed to having been searching for new investors lately. He bought the club in 1999 for 20 million pounds from Peter Johnson.

Former Everton midfielder Peter Reid said: "It's my club and Goodison Park - as much as I love it - I think Everton need a new football ground. We've got a great squad of players and a good manager but we need to get a new stadium to keep pace with the other clubs in this Premier League. You need the revenue that generates. If Bill Kenwright says it's OK - yes let's get it done."

Everton are currently 13/2 at Bet365 to finish inside the Premier League top six this season.
