Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has signed a new four-year contract with the club, despite the poor start to the season. The central defender, now aged 22, has made 177 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club since his transfer from Bolton in January 2012. Chelsea had paid 7 million pounds for his transfer back then/
Cahill was under contract with Chelsea until the end of next season. "I have achieved a lot here and I hope I can keep on learning, helping the team and lifting trophies over the next four years," the defender said. "I'm really pleased to commit my future to Chelsea and it's great the club has put their faith in me."
This season Cahill has made ten Premier League appearances, but Chelsea are all the way down in 14th position in the league table. They have recorded just 15 points out of their 14 league matches so far. Cahill has scored 15 goals for Chelsea so far and has won every possible silverware with the club: Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League.
Chelsea are currently 4/1 at Bet365 to clinch a Premier League top-four finish this season.

If he's healthy enough he could play at the center back position successfully even at age 37-38.

He has a very important role in the defense without doubt. In my opinion this is a win-win situation for the club and the player as well. Zouma is a big talent but his experience level is low. Terry is old and will leave the club in the near future. So Cahill will be one of their most important players. And don't forget about the fact, he's a homegrown player. He's not a world class player but a good central defender. Good deal in my opinion.
