Back UEFA Europa League: Liverpool vs Bordeaux preview

Liverpool face Bordeaus at Anfield Roan on Thursday and they can book their place in the last 32 of the Europa League if they win the match. The Reds have won just one of their four Group B matches so far, but another three points would be enough to secure qualification. The reverse fixture in France in September ended 1-1. The last time the two teams met at Anfield was in 2006, in the Champions League group stage, and Liverpool won 3-0 on that occasion.

Liverpool are full of confidence after last weekend's 4-1 triumph over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Since Jurgen Klopp took over, the Reds defeated big teams like Chelsea and City away from home, but their home results were not as good. This time they will have to take advantage of the boost that their home fans will offer since a victory would pull them through to the knockout rounds with one group match to spare. Philippe Coutinho suffered an injury last weekend, so he will probably be rested on Thursday.

Bordeaux have not won any of their four group matches so far, they recorded three draws and one defeat. If they manage to win at Anfield they would be level on points with Liverpool with one game left to play in the group stage. They are currently 13th in the Ligue 1 table after a rather unconvincing start to the season.

Probable line-ups:

Liverpool: Mignolet - Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno - Lucas, Can - Ibe, Firmino, Lallana - Benteke

Bordeaux: Carrasso - Guilbert, Sane, Pallois, Contento - Chantome, Yambere, Saivet - Khazri, Crivelli, Maurice-Belay

My prediction: Liverpool to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Liverpool win - 1.53 Draw - 4.20 Bordeaux win - 7.50
