Back Premier League: Crystal Palace close to securing major US investment

The owners of Premier League club Crystal Palace are very close to bringing in new US investment, involving David Blitzer and Josh Harris, who co-own NHL and NBA franchises. Co-chairman Steve Parish, who helped rescue the south London club from bankruptcy in 2010, said he was "really hopeful we can get it done".

Parish would continue to run the club's daily operations, while the investment would mainly be used for improvements to Selhurst Park. Blitzer and Harris co-own the New Jersey Devils hockey franchise and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. They are expected to take 18% shareholdings with Parish. Current co-owners Stephen Browett, Jeremy Hosking and Martin Long will see their current 25% stakes go down to 15.33%.

Parish said: "I think this club can be massive and it's a great opportunity. I want to move fast and to do that you need big funds. I'm prepared to do my bit, the three boys who are involved with me are prepared to do their bit. But we need to bring some new people in to accelerate it and make sure we've got everything we need. If I was a Palace fan, and I am, I'd be fantastically excited about the future."

Crystal Palace are currently 8th in the Premier League table and they are 11/2 at Bet365 to finish inside the top six this season.
