Southampton have a great chance of reaching the League Cup quarter-finals as they face managerless Aston Villa in the fourth round on Wednesday. The Saints reached the last eight in the previous season. The last visit at St Mary's was a sad one for Aston Villa as they were demolished 6-1 in May. The Villains have won just one of their last six matches against Southampton.
Southampton snatched a good 1-1 draw at Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend, but goal scorer Sadio Mane picked up a second yellow card in stoppage time and will be suspended for the Capital One Cup match. The Saints are unbeaten in their last five competitive matches. The previous round was an easy one for Ronald Koeman's men as they secured a 6-0 victory over Championship side MK Dons. Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez are both unavailable through injury.
Aston Villa sacked manager Tim Sherwood after just eight months in charge and Kevin MacDonald took his place as caretaker manager. They are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table, with their only win coming on opening day. In the League Cup they needed extra time to knock out League Two side Notts County in round two, but then defeated local rivals Birmingham City in the next round.
Probable line-ups:
Southampton: Stekelenburg - Soares, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand - Clasie, Ward-Prowse, Davis, Ramirez, Tadic - Pelle
Aston Villa: Guzan - Hutton, Richards, Lescott, Amavi - Bacuna, Gueye, Ayew, Gil, Traore - Gestede
My prediction: Southampton to win 3-0.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Southampton win - 1.44 Draw - 4.75 Aston Villa win - 8.00

Like it was expected,Sothampton won this match.Aston VIlla must start playing better,if they wat to remain in the Premier Leauge. They are by far the worst team in the league at the moment. This elimination form the LEague Cup wont help them to regain confidence.

Southampton won this game with 2-1. They showed quality, strenght and capacity to play good in several competitions. They played with mixed team, and won. That is something that you have to respect. Pelle scored again and Tadic made another assist. On the other side, Aston Villa need to find manager and to change something...

For sure Southampton have to be considered as a favorite in that one, Aston Villa are managerless at the moment, the situation around the club is very tough and it's difficult to believe that they will aim higher in that competition when they are at the last spot in the Premier League. Sometimes the biggest surprises happens...

For me the absolute favorite in this match is Southampton. Aston Villa has changed the coach, but the players did not change. They are in a very difficult situation and I don't know how the new manager can help them. I expect an easy victory Southampton and pass on to the next round.
