Back League Cup: Manchester City vs Crystal Palace preview

Manchester City will be looking to make another step towards a trophy when they face Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday. The Eagles have reached the semi-finals of this competition in 2012 and they will be hoping for a surprise result at the Etihad Stadium. City won 1-0 at Selhurst Park earlier this season, while the last meeting at the Etihad Stadium ended 3-0.

Manchester City cruised past Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the previous round, they recorded a 4-1 victory. After two consecutive Premier League defeats to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur Pellegrini's men recovered with solid 6-1 and 5-1 wins over Newcastle United and Bournemouth, results which kept them at the top of the table. Last weekend they played out a goalless draw against rivals Manchester United. The Citizens won the League Cup in 2014 but last season they were knocked out by Newcastle in the third round. Sergio Aguero and David Silva are still unavailable through injury, while Fernandinho is suspended.

Crystal Palace had a great start to the season but now they have recorded consecutive defeats against West Ham United and Leicester City. Their away form has been particularly convincing under Alan Pardew, they won nine of their 13 matches on the road since he took charge. The Eagles have never won the League Cup and have failed to reach the fourth round of the competition since the 2011-2012 season. Dwight Gayle is back from suspension but Pape Souare, Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh are still injured.

Probable line-ups:

Manchester City: Caballero - Sagna, Kompany, Mangala, Kolarov - Fernando, Garcia, Toure, Roberts, De Bruyne - Bony

Crystal Palace: Hennessey - Mariappa, Dann, Hangeland, Kelly - McArthur, Cabaye - Puncheon, Zaha, Bolasie - Gayle

My prediction: Manchester City to win 2-0.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Man City win - 1.40 Draw - 5.25 Crystal Palace win - 8.00
