Back UEFA Champions League: CSKA Moscow vs Manchester United preview

Manchester United will be looking to grab their second consecutive victory in Group B when they travel to face CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday. The two sides have met on just two occasions before, both meetings taking place in the Champions League in 2009. The Red Devils managed to win 1-0 in Moscow while the second match at Old Trafford ended 3-3 after CSKA had a 3-1 lead.

CSKA had a great first half against PSV in their last match, they built a 3-0 lead before half time and also had a penalty before the break but Seydou Doumbia missed it. PSV scored twice after the interval but CSKA eventually held on for the win, their first of the group stage after a 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg. They are unbeaten in their last 13 matches at home in all competitions, the last defeat was in April against Dynamo Moscow. Vasili Berezutski could be unavailable due to a thigh injury while Bibras Natkho could also miss out.

The Red Devils started the group stage with a defeat at PSV but then fought back from one goal down to defeat Wolfsburg at Old Trafford. United have not been too impressive away from home this season, they have lost three matches already but last weekend they recorded a solid 3-0 win at Everton. Wayne Rooney has scored two goals in his last four matches. Antonio Valencia will be available again after missing last weekend's Premier League match, while Sergio Romero will most likely be on the bench. Bastian Schweinsteiger is a doubt due to a knee injury, while Ashley Young and Paddy McNair will surely miss out, along with Luke Shaw.

Team News © Getty Images United are boosted by the return of Antonio Valencia for the match after he missed the trip to Everton. Sergio Romero will also be included in the squad to travel to Moscow. Bastian Schweinsteiger is a doubt for the match due to a knee injury, while Ashley Young and Paddy McNair are out of the clash due to calf and abdominal injuries respectively. Van Gaal is also without long-term injury victim Luke Shaw. The Dutchman may opt to stick with the same team that beat Everton, although Daley Blind and Michael Carrick could come into the lineup to take on Slutsky's side. CSKA are likely to be without Vasili Berezutski with a thigh injury and Bibras Natkho due to a concussion. Slutsky could stick with the majority of the same side that defeated PSV last time out to take on the Red Devils.

Probable line-ups:

CSKA Moscow: Akinfeev - Fernandes, Nababkin, Ignasevich, Schennikov - Eremenko, Wernbloom, Tosic, Dzagoev - Musa, Doumbia

Manchester United: De Gea - Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Blind - Carrick, Schneiderlin - Mata, Rooney, Herrera - Martial

My prediction: Manchester United to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

CSKA win - 2.87 Draw - 3.40 Man Utd win - 2.60
