Back UEFA Champions League: Arsenal vs Bayern Munich preview

Big match for Arsenal on Tuesday when they host Bayern Munich in Group F of the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners recorded successive defeats in their first two group matches, so they will need a result against the German champions in order to preserve their qualification chances. On the other hand Bayern had a perfect start to the group stage, winning two out of two. The two sides have met in the first knockout stage of the tournament two seasons ago and Bayern won 2-0 in London before drawing 1-1 in Munchen.

Arsenal surprisingly lost both to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos in the group stage, leaving them out of the race for first place and seriously damaging their qualification chances. Last weekend the Gunners snatched a much-needed win at Watford, with Alexis Sanchez continuing to show good form while taking his scoring tally to seven goals in his last four games in all competitions. Olivier Giroud is back from suspension but Arsene Wenger might prefer to field Theo Walcott in the first eleven. Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini remain on the injured list.

Bayern are in top shape ahead of this match, they have won all their nine Bundesliga matches so far and also both Champions League matches. The Bavarians have scored five times and conceded just once in their last two away matches against Arsenal. Arjen Robben will not play as he has not traveled to England with the squad, but striker Robert Lewandowski should be in the starting eleven. Mario Gotze is not fit yet after having picked up an injury during the international break. Mehdi Benatia and Franck Ribery are also injured.

Probable line-ups:

Arsenal: Cech - Monreal, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Bellerín - Cazorla, Coquelin - Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey - Walcott

Bayern Munich: Neuer - Alaba, Martinez, Boateng, Lahm - Alcantara, Alonso, Vidal - Costa, Lewandowski, Muller

My prediction: 1-1 draw.
