Liverpool young defender Joe Gomez has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing a cruciate knee ligament. The injury occurred while he was playing for the England U21 team on Tuesday, according to sources quoted by Sky Sports. The 18-year-old defender got injured after a challenge with Abat Aimbetov during England's 3-0 win over Kazakhstan.
England U21 medical staff initially seemed hopeful that the injury was not too bad but scans have revealed the terrible damage. Joe Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton last summer, signing a five-year contract. He became the first-choice left back under Brendan Rodgers and also played as a central defender in Europa League matches.
The knee ligament injury would keep Gomez out of contention for up to nine months, making his return this season highly unlikely. Alberto Moreno should be the first-choice left back for new boss Jurgen Klopp for this weekend's match against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Liverpool are 33/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.

It is always such a pitty to hear such a news. There is nothing worse for a young athlete then to suffer so heavy injury, that will take you away from sport for such a long time.Joe Gomez is very talented and gifted player and I hope he will get back even stronger and ready to show his class to the world.

This is bad for Liverpool and for England and special for this young and talented player. We saw a lot of young and talented players but they were stopped by injuries and that is shame but that is thing where you can't do anything, so beside talent and work you must have a lot of lucky to become great player.

To be honest I even don't know who is that guy. But If there is appropriate time at all for this kind of injury this is while the player is still very young and the injury could be much faster behind your back. Also I don't think this is a huge problem for Liverpool because the boy was still not fully first team player....

Klopp's first week at Liverpool is not the best one of his life. These two young players are very important for the Reds and we have not talked about Flanagan, Firmino, Lovren and Henderson who are injured as well while Coutinho is questionable.
