Back Premier League: Newcastle's Tim Krul ruled out for the rest of the season

Newcastle goalie Tim Krul will not be able to play any more matches this season after picking up a serious knee injury. The Dutch goalkeeper ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his country's 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan, an Euro 2016 qualifying match played on Saturday.

The 27-year-old goalie is set to return at the club for treatment. He posted on Twitter: "I'm devastated the scan has confirmed my biggest fear . . . My recovery and hard work starts now to fully recover." He has been the number one for the Magpies in all eight Premier League matches of the season. Now the club have decided to recall backup goalie Freddie Woodman from his loan deal at Crawley Town in League Two.

Krul has joined Newcastle in 2005 as a youth player and was promoted to the senior squad in 2006. He has made 155 appearances for the club and earned 8 caps for the Netherlands. In the 2013-2014 season a string of superb performances earned him the award for November's Premier League Player of the Month.

Newcastle are currently last in the Premier League table and they are 1.61 at Bet365 to avoid relegation this season.
