Dutch manager Dick Advocaat has resigned as Sunderland boss, as the team have not won any of their eight Premier League matches this season. The 68-year-old experienced manager was appointed in March and rescued the club from relegation. He wanted to leave the club at the end of last season but was persuaded to sign a new one-year contract.
Advocaat said: "I have made the decision to go after only eight games as I felt it was important to give everyone time to turn things around." Sunderland chairman Ellis Short replied: "I am truly saddened by Dick's decision, but I respect him for his honesty. It is also testament to his character that he has foregone any kind of a financial settlement, something which is very unusual in football." Along with Dick Advocaat assistant manager Zeljko Petrovic also decided to leave the club.
Sunderland were held to a draw by West Ham on Saturday, leaving them with just three points after eight league matches. The Black Cats will now be looking to appoint their sixth manager in the last four years. Since November 2011, when Steve Bruce was sacked, Sunderland appointed Martin O'Neill, then Paolo di Canio, then Gus Poyet and Advocaat to manage the club. The only match that the Black Cats won this season was the League Cup fixture against League Two outfit Exeter.
Sunderland are currently 4.33 at Bet365 to avoid relegation this season.

He ruined Serbian Euro 2016 qualification campaign, with that kind of players and his reputation i expected a lot more form him, of course its not all his guilt because with that kind of arrogant players like serbians in national team its hard to make a good result.

It is not easy to be a manager in premier league. Every club has great expectations, fans also expect a lot of every season and when season start like this it is easier to quit than stay. I think that Sunderland is first favorite for relegation no matter who is going to be their manager for the rest of the season.

I had a bet on the "next sacked manager in the Barclays Premier League market". I tought the next one will be Brendan Rodgers. Nope. Advocaat announced his leaving on the same day as Brendan was fired out but the Dutch left Sunderland earlier. I'm not too lucky. But I think Advocaat is not as good as many people think it....

Dick Advocaat is no doubt a good manager but if he was not happy in Sunderland probably they should let him go when he wanted in the end of last season. Although Sunderland doesn't have a win in the 8 games in the season so far it's still very early and the club is still not doomed to failure.

Dick Advocaat was achieving great results last season, but in this season, situation is completely different. It is normal to see manager leaving if the club is struggling to earn points.Sunderland was not playing good and I hope that with new manager they will have more luck.

This was expected news. Sunderland was so unconvincing in this eight games. They have good squad and it is disgracefully for them to have score of just three points without win. He wanted to leave club in the end of the season, but club won't let him go. And now, after eight games they need to search for another manager....
