Back UEFA Europa League: Liverpool vs Sion preview

Liverpool host Sion on Thursday at Anfield for their Europa League Group B match, with the Reds looking to clinch their first victory in this year's tournament. The visitors have already clinched their win as they started the campaign with a home victory over Rubin Kazan. The two sides have met over two legs in the 1996 edition of the Cup Winners' Cup, with Liverpool 2-1 in Switzerland and 6-3 at Anfield.

Liverpool eased some of the pressure with a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League last weekend, their first three points in five games. Daniel Sturridge has returned to full fitness and had an instant impact as he bagged two goals against Villa. In the Europa League Liverpool kicked things off with a draw at Bordeaux and they will be looking to build upon that before next weekend's Merseyside derby. Brendan Rodgers will most likely choose to rest some players for next weekend, so Joe Gomez and Kolo Toure could feature in defence.

Sion started their Europa League adventure with a solid 2-1 home win over Rubin Kazan but their enthusiasm faded after losing their next two league games in the Swiss league. Head coach Didier Tholot will probably field the same starting eleven that defeated Rubin Kazan, with striker Moussa Konate the main threat after having scored both goals against the Russian outfit.

Probable line-ups:

Liverpool: Bogdan - Toure, Sakho, Gomez, Moreno - Rossiter, Can, Ibe, Lallana, Allen - Origi

Sion: Vanins - Zverotic, Lacroix, Ziegler, Pa Modou Jagne - Assifuah, Xavier Kouassi, Fernandes, Carlitos, Salatic - Konate

My prediction: Liverpool to win 3-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Liverpool win - 1.60 Draw - 4.33 Sion win - 6.00
