Back UEFA Champions League: Manchester United vs Wolfsburg preview

The Red Devils will try to grab their first points in this season's Champions League when they host German side Wolfsburg at Old Trrafford on Wednesday. The opening match was a disappointment for Manchester United, as they were defeated by PSV Eindhoven. Wolfsburg enjoyed a winning start as a goal from youngster Julian Draxler earned them a win over CSKA Moscow. The two sides have already met twice in the Champions League, both meetings having been played six years ago. United won both matches back then, 2-1 at Old Trafford and 3-1 in Germany.

United were given a 1-0 lead at Eindhoven thanks to a goal from Memphis Depay, but Hector Moreno and Luciano Narsingh scored to give PSV a 2-1 victory. The same match saw Luke Shaw break his leg, a horrendous injury that might keep him off the pitch for the remainder of the season. Things have been going better in the Premier League for Man United, last weekend's 3-0 victory over Sunderland moved them up to the top of the table for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson's days. Michael Carrick will be unable to play while Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia all missed training on Tuesday due to injuries.

Summer signing Draxler gave Wolfsburg a winning start against CSKA Moscow but there might be difficult times ahead for the German side as Volkswagen, the company that owns the club, is facing all sorts of trouble after "Dieselgate". Last season they finished second in the Bundesliga but the start of the new campaign has not been equally impressive. They are already nine points behind reigning champions Bayern Munich while their star player, Kevin De Bruyne, was sold to Manchester City. Robin Knoche will be unavailable for Wolfsburg, while Vieirinha and Koen Casteels could also miss out.

Probable line-ups:

Man United: De Gea - Jones, Smalling, Blind, Darmian - Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin - Mata, Depay, Martial - Rooney

Wolfsburg: Benaglio - Trasch, Dante, Naldo, Rodriguez - Guilavogui, Arnold, Caligiuri - Schurrle, Draxler, Dost

My prediction: Manchester United to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Man United win - 1.80 Draw - 3.75 Wolfsburg win - 5.00
