Britain's Chris Froome, two-time Tour de France winner, will not be able to take part in the World Road Cycling Championships after breaking a foot during the Tour of Spain at the beginning of September. The 30-year-old rider crashed on stage 11, finished that stage but then pulled out of the race. Team Sky director Sir David Brailsford confirmed Froome will not be able to climb on his bike "for a couple of weeks".
The World Championships take place between 19 and 27 September in Virginia, USA. "It looks unlikely," said Brailsford about Froome's participation. "The fracture will take a while to heal." Froome, who won the Tour de France in 2013 and 2015, was on the British squad list for both the road race and time trial events at the World Championships. He was aiming to become the third rider to win both the Tour de France and the Tour of Spain in the same year.
The road race at the World Championships will be quite exciting as there are several strong riders in contention for the victory. Slovakia's Peter Sagan is the favourite according to the bookmakers, he is 7.00 at Bet365 to win the race, but the likes of Alexander Kristoff, Greg Van Avermaet or John Degenkolb also have a good chance to clinch the victory if they make it to the final sprint at the head of the race.

This is very bad thing.I am fan of cycling, and I feel big disappointment for Chris Froome. He won Tour de France this year and he definitely had big expectations aheaed of world champonship in cycling, but he simply was not lucky enough to cmpete this year.I wish him a lot of luck in the future...

This is bad news for all fans of Cycling but there are still a lot of great drivers and it will be interesting without Froome too. And this is maybe good for him, to take couple weeks off, to rest and later when he recovers and gain energy he can back to Cycling and be one of the best drivers of today.

I'm not sure that Froome has to participate in the World Championship even if he wasn't injured. After the Tour and Vuelta he would been enormously exhausted so I don't see any point in his participation there. After so tough season the only thing he's needed is a rest and not two more races that I think he has no chance...
