Michigan to Ban DFS?
Daily fantasy sports and whether or not it's legal has become a major issue in the US and the executive director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, Rick Kalm, has also weighed in on the issue saying that real-money DFS operations are illegal under state gambling laws. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act comes into play with this issue as it gives individual states the freedom to decide. Should Kalm's opinion be supported by Michigan legislators and the state Attorney General, the state could become the sixth state, including Washington, Iowa, Louisiana, Arizona and Montana, to deem DFS illegal. Leading operators DraftKings and FanDuel are heavily active in legal states and have cooperated in blocking residents in illegal states. Kansas regulators were in a similar situation this year but the AG argued that DFS is skill based and should not be categorized as gambling making it now legal in the state.
