Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao has agreed to join French Ligue 1 outfit Monaco on a season-long loan deal. The Portuguese left back has not been able to play much first-team football at the Spanish giants last season and new manager Rafael Benitez didn't include him in his plans for the current campaign.
The 27-year-old joined Real from Benfica for 25 million pounds in 2011. He scored one goal in 55 appearances for Real Madrid. In 2013 former Manchester United manager David Moyes tried to bring him at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day but the deal eventually fell through.
Fabio Coentrao has 50 caps for Portugal and has scored five goals for his nation. His place in the first team at AS Monaco is not at all guaranteed though as he will have to compete with talented young Frenchman Layvin Kurzawa for a spot in the first eleven. Chelsea have been linked with Kurzawa last week but eventually decided to sign Baba Rahman, but Paris Saint-Germain might push for a transfer now.
AS Monaco are 13.00 at Bet365 to win the Ligue 1 title this season.

AS Monaco trying to make good team to fight for first place with PSG but I am not sure that they are able to do that. They have some good players but they are far away from PSG. Bringing Coentrao will bring quality and experience to their squad but I think that is not enough and even Lyon has better team than Monaco.

I think that is the best solution for every part in this transfer. Fabio Coentrao is a big boost for Monaco this year. I think he will return to his old form. He is Real Madrid had a difficult season. He's not got a lot of chances and it left a mark. However, he is good player. Monaco this season, made a great team, bring many young and good players. I like how they play this season.

Coentrao is good player and I believe that in Monaco he will fit well. He hadn't quality for Real Madrid, and that was obvious. He is neither good neither with attractive character. Surely all three sides must be satisfied with this transfer and I believe that soon he will show his quailty in Monaco

I totally agree with you sharpe, Fabio Coentrao definitely deserve more minutes than he got in Real Madrid. But also, it's hard to be first choice when you are "competing" with Marcelo. Now in Monaco he will have more minutes to play and more chances to prove that he is great player. I hope that it will be great season...

This is a good decision for Coentrao who has not been a first choice back in Real. For every player the most important thing is to be in play and from this point of view he take a great decision. Although Monaco will miss the Champions League appearance this season there will be enough quality games for the defender to participate in and who knows maybe he will sign a permanent deal with the club after the loan period.
