Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says his team have been "very average" this season after snatching just four points out of their first three Premier League matches. The season started with an unexpected home defeat against West Ham, then the Gunners recovered with a win at Crystal Palace but then were held to a goalless draw by Liverpool on Monday.
"We have started very average I must concede," Wenger said. "Sharpness is missing a little bit in some players. Our game is still not fluent enough in the final third." Next Saturday Arsenal travel to meet Newcastle. Until then speculation about new signings will continue as the transfer window shuts on September 1st. Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema said he wants to remain at his current club, so a move to Arsenal seems more and more unlikely. However, the biggest problems for Wenger are in defence these days, with both Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny out injured.
On the other hand Liverpool remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season, with two wins and a draw. Moreover, the Reds have kept a third consecutive clean sheet, an achievement which pleases manager Brendan Rodgers. "Performance-wise, I was very happy with how we worked. First half in particular we created chances and should have been in front," said Rodgers. "Our performance level has grown over time. Our defensive organisation is good against big teams."
Arsenal are 6.50 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season, while Liverpool are 2.37 to finish inside the top four.

For me this start of season for Arsenal is not an average, it is bad. I was watching them on friendly games before start of season and they were great and I expected more from them in this season. They have great players but i think that their defense is not good enough and their goalkeeper Pert is not on high level. They...

What can I say, Venger is right- they are average so far. Every season Arsenal starting as one of the contenders of the title but in the last years they are never in that battle. And when I say last years I mean last 15 or so. Arsenal has the squad to be in the title race but I think their problem is mostly psychological...

Wenger is right, but I don´t think average a good thing, average means half, and is too little for a big team like Arsenal, who must be a team that is always fighting for the first places in the Premier League and other competitions like UEFA Champions League. Wenger needs to urgently correct the errors and put this team...

Well,I could not agree more with Wenger.I am just hoping that he knows that he should strengthen some areas of the team.He cant do anything big with Giroud as striker.They need someone with much better finishing.Also,another top class midfielder would mean them a lot...

I must say that I totally agree with Arsene Wenger. I've expected more from Arsenal, especially when it comes of the midfielders. I must say that I totally agree with Arsene Wenger. I've expected more from Arsenal, especially when it comes of the midfielders. On the other side, in the second half they've created good chances but they didn't managed to score. Anyway, I expect that they will get better with time and that they will be in top three teams at the end of the season in Premier League.

It is well noted Venger where the problem is. Arsenal have great players in midfield and winger. The biggest problem is a central striker, because Olivie Girou can not play well in continuity. Arsene Wenger has eight days to solve this problem or else this will be another disappointing season for them.
