Back Serie A: Mario Balotelli joins AC Milan on loan

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli returns to AC Milan on a season-long loan deal, according to an official announcement made by the Italian club. The player has taken a pay cut in order to move back to Italy, but Liverpool will continue to pay a part of his wages.

The Italian striker, now aged 25, could make his return for AC Milan in the Serie A match against Empoli on Saturday. He has bagged just one goal in the Premier League for Liverpool after having joined the Reds for 16 million pounds in August 2014. He didn't travel with the Liverpool squad for the pre-season tour and has been training separately from the first team.

With Liverpool having signed forwards Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings, plus Divock Origi returning after a year on loan at Lille, it was quite clear that Balotelli had very slim chances of featuring in the first team at Anfield Road this season. Balotelli has already played for AC Milan between 2013 and 2014, for a season and a half, scoring 26 goals in 43 appearances.

AC Milan are 3.50 at Bet365 to finish inside the Serie A top 3 this season.
