Back Primera Liga: Sergio Ramos signs new Real Madrid contract

Sergio Ramos, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, has agreed to sign a new five-year contract with Real Madrid. The World Cup winner signed the new contract during a ceremony with club president Florentino Perez on Monday.

Manchester United had made an offer of 28.6m million pounds for the 29-year-old defender while contract talks between the player and Real Madrid stalled. Now goalkeeper David De Gea, a transfer target for Real Madrid this summer, is expected to stay at Manchester United.

Ramos scored a decisive injury-time equaliser as Real defeated rivals Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final and is the longest-serving player currently at the club after goalkeeper Iker Casillas moved to FC Porto this summer. Ramos, signed for Sevilla in 2005, has been made captain by new boss Rafael Benitez. He has 128 caps for Spain and has won two European Championships with La Roja along with the 2010 World Cup.

Real Madrid are 2.75 at Bet365 to clinch the Primera Liga title this season.
