Back Premier League: Chelsea sign defender Baba Rahman

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Bundesliga side FC Augsburg to sign defender Baba Rahman. The Bluyes confirmed the move on the club website but the fee remains undisclosed. Rahman, aged 21, is a Ghana international and plays as a left back.

Chelsea had been linked with a move for the left defender after allowing Brazil international Filipe Luis to move back to Atletico Madrid this summer. Rahman said: "I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who suffered a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday, said: "It is important because he is a left-back, so he can compete with Cesar Azpilicueta. At the same time, Azpilicueta can compete with Branislav Ivanovic for the right-back position, so he replaces Filipe Luis in the balance of the squad." Rahman played for Augsburg for just 12 months after joining them from Greuther Fürth last summer. He made 31 appearances last season as Augsburg qualified for the Europa League.

Chelsea are 4.33 at Bet365 to retain the Premier League title this season.
