Back Premier League: Thibaut Courtois red card appeal rejected

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will not be able to play in next weekend's game at Manchester City. The club have filed an appeal against his red card in the 2-2 draw with Swansea but it was rejected.

Courtois, aged 23, was sent off after denying Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis a clear scoring chance during Saturday's match at Stamford Bridge. The Football Association stated that Chelsea failed to prove referee Michael Oliver made "an obvious error".

Asmir Begovic, signed this summer from Stoke, came from the bench to complete the match against Swansea and is set to play between the sticks at City on Sunday. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had refused to discuss the red card after the match. The defending Premier League champions will face last season's runners-up Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Chelsea are 3.00 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title again this season.
