West Brom have broken their transfer record to sign Zenit St Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon for a fee of around 12 million pounds. The Venezuela international has signed a four-year contract with the Baggies, becoming their fifth summer signing. He was not eligible to play in Monday's Premier League match against Manchester City, lost by West Brom 3-0.
"We feel with age on his side and the prices English clubs are asking for their players, it's a deal worth doing," said West Brom manager Tony Pulis. The previous transfer record for West Brom was the £10m signing of Brown Ideye last summer. This summer they have signed James McClean, James Chester and Rickie Lambert, plus Arsenal's Serge Gnabry on a season-long loan.
Rondon, aged 25, scored 20 goals in 37 appearances for Zenit last season. "He's got a fantastic goalscoring record in some of the top leagues in Europe and for his country," said Pulis. "He's 25 years of age and still to fulfill his full potential. We hope he hits the ground running of course but understand it might take him time to settle." The player said: "The club showed a lot of interest in me. That's what is important for a player, what you take into account, and there are expectations of me."
West Brom are 1.22 at Bet365 to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table this season.

West Bromwich Albion has bought fantastic players. Salomon Rondon last year was the second best striker in the Russian league. He played for a fantastic team Zenit, played a lot of big games against tough opponents. There will be no problem for him to adjust to the new environment. I expect at least 12 goals from him in...

West Bromwich Albion made a very good deal with this transfer. They have big money, for them, but they signed top class player. He is not old ,so he can be sold even better after a year or two at WBA.I am sure that he can be big advantage for them in their fight for mid table finish.

I'm a little surprised that Tony Pulis spent so much ;) He's an old school manager and they didn't like to throw the clubs money easily no matter how rich the owner is. Tony did a great job in Stoke and make a tough team without spending much by he Premier League standards and he is on his way to do the same thing in WBA.

I totally agree with advoghado, this is great signing for West Bromwich. Salomon Rondon is great example of central striker. He is enough tall and he plays great with his head, also he have great athletic skills. I'm pretty sure that he will help West Bromwich to success to stay in Premier League for the next season too.

Great signing for West Bromwich, I watched some games of this player in Venezuela's National Team in the Copa America 2011. This year was the best presentation of the Venezuelan team, finishing in the semifinal phase, with a very fast team on the field and Rondon was part this young team 2011.
