Back Premier League: Liverpool sign Christian Benteke from Aston Villa

Liverpool have completed the signing of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke for 32.5 million pounds. The Belgian striker becomes the second most expensive signing ever for the Reds. The club revealed that the player has signed a "long-term contract". Liverpool sold Raheem Sterling to Manchester City last week for 49 million pounds and invested some of that money in paying Benteke's minimum fee release clause. The 24-year-old striker is the seventh signing of the summer for the Reds.

Benteke scored 49 goals in 101 games for Aston Villa after signing from Genk for 7 million pounds 2012. This is what he said after signing the contract with Liverpool: "I'm very happy to be here. I came here to win trophies. I came here to reach some great goals with the team. It was the right club for me because I had a good chat with the manager and I wanted to be part of his project."

Liverpool have suffered from a lack of goals last season after parting company with Luis Suarez, who joined Barcelona for £75m. England international Daniel Sturridge was injured for the best part of the season while new signings Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli only managed to score 3 goals between them. The Reds have also brought in strikers Danny Ings from Burnley and Brazil international Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim this summer and they also brought back Divock Origi who has spent last season on loan at Lille.

Daniel Sturridge is the favourite to become the Liverpool top goal scorer in the Premier League next season, he is 3.2 at 888sport to achieve that.
