Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says he will employ Wayne Rooney as a central striker next season. The England forward, aged 29, has played mostly as a midfielder last season. "I have listened to you," Van Gaal told journalists. "You have more knowledge than I. Now Rooney is there."
The Dutch manager also hinted that United will buy another forward: "He is in the process. It is not a striker that the media has written but you have to wait and see." Rooney has played as a central striker in the 2011-12 season and he did very well, scoring 34 goals in that campaign.
"I hope to score 20 or more goals again," said Rooney. "If I'm playing as a striker, then I will be disappointed if I can't do that again. "I've played different roles over the years for United but you only have to look when I play for England as a striker I score goals."

I am not sure about this decision. Wayne Rooney is not so fast player and he can not be first option as only attacker. Manchester United need to bring one top class player in attack if they want to be competitive. They spend lot of money in this transfer window but didn't buy attacker. That will be primary target for Van...

The problem is not at which position Rooney is going to play, the problem is that United has 3 strikers in the squad and two of them are not a first team players. And why the hell they sold Van Persie when they was not able to find a replacement. The season is so long and they could be easily be out of healthy strikers even at the beginning of the season! I believe that Manchester United's fans will be very satisfied if this turns to be truth. Wayne Rooney is great striker, especially when he plays as central striker. I don't know why he was played in other positions, and not just when it comes to United, he was played in different positions in England's National Team too....

Wayne Rooney is a true legend.He started career as a striker.After that ,he player variety of positions and he never complained about that.He is true soldier of the club.His presence will mean a lot to Manchester United squad.He will get back on the his position and we can expect marvelous things from him again.
