Louis van Gaal has sold some big names this summer at Manchester United, some criticized the moves but Bryan Robson says the Dutch manager does exactly what former Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson did. Van Gaal parted company with Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Victor Valdes this summer while Ferguson had decided to sell high-profile players like Roy Keane, David Beckham, Jaap Stam or Ruud van Nistelrooy when he felt that they didn't fit in any more.
"It's very similar to Sir Alex Ferguson," Robson said. "Louis van Gaal has been very successful in his career. He has been a bit ruthless with a few of his decisions lately and that is what good managers do. At certain stages, managers have to make major decisions and sometimes people have to move on and the manager has got to change things the way he sees it. And that is what he is doing, that's part of his job - you have to be ruthless at stages. With Valdes, it didn't suit the manager, so he has moved him on."
Victor Valdes has been left out of United's squad for their pre-season tour of the United States and was placed on the transfer list after half a season with the club. As far as incoming transfers are concerned Van Gaal brought in Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and German international Bastian Schweinsteiger. "I have always admired him. He has outstanding quality, he can be a big influence at Manchester United this year," Robson said about Schweinsteiger. "I like his attitude. In the World Cup final someone made a real bad tackle on him and he got up and the next minute someone hit him in the face, he was bleeding, but he wasn't rolling about. He just got up, got treatment and got on with the game. He is not just one of these players that falls down, and rolls over the place. He is a really good character so for someone like myself it's great to see him in our squad."

Luis Van Gaal has a very hard job to do and Robson backs him because of that. He needs to make new squad and that squad need to be good enough to win the trophy. Yes, he spend lot of money, but Manchester United can allow that to themselves. He bought some quality players and this season they will be very strong. I think...

I don't agree with Bryan Robson at all.First of all we can't compare Ferguson and Van Gaal as a managers but even if we do that, the all advantages will be on the Fergie's side. He never spend like crazy on the market and despite that in most of his time at the club the team was fully loaded with great players and many...

I am sure only about one thing. There is no manager in the world that has such a position like Louis Van Gaal.Nobody can spend as mauch money as he can.No one has abiliy to build a absolutely new team.He has big liberty,so if he does not achieve good results this season,I think he will get sacked.

I really don't see the reason why somebody, especially Manchester United's fans, should not "back" Louis Van Gaal transfer policy. He enforced his team a lot since last season, especially he is signing great footballers this summer. Also it's even more great that they are about to make another signings this summer. I expect...

He enforced his team a lot since last season, especially he is signing great footballers this summer. Also it's even more great that they are about to make another signings this summer. I expect that Manchester United will be one of the biggest favorites for winning Premier League title next season, or maybe even the biggest. Great job Mr. van Gall!
