Back Premier League: Leicester City sack Nigel Pearson

Leicester City announced late on Tuesday night that they have decided to sack manager Nigel Pearson, despite him saving the club from relegation last season. Leicester seemed doomed at a certain point but under Pearson the team managed to dig themselves out of the relegation zone. The club cited a "breakdown in relations" between the manager and the board.

According to BBC Sport's Pat Murphy Nigel Pearson's sacking is linked to his son's role in a racist sex tape. The incident took place in Thailand and the club owners, Vichai and Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, are Thai. Pat Murphy said the Thai owners decided to sack the manager because they were concerned about damage to the club's reputation. A statement released by the club said the relationship between Pearson and the board was "no longer viable".

Murphy added: "There is no doubt that the image and the reputation of the club in their homeland of Thailand has been damaged by the behaviour of, among others, the manager's son James on the 'goodwill' tour to Thailand." Pearson has been involved in a few controversial situations last season, once he called a journalist an "ostrich" and on another occasion he clashed with Crystal Palace's James McArthur.
