Back Copa America: Argentina vs Colombia preview

One of the most interesting Copa America quarter-final fixtures will take place on Saturday morning when pre-tournament favourites Argentina face Colombia in Vina del Mar. Colombia have beaten Argentina on just two occasions and suffered eight defeats in the previous thirteen direct matches. Their last Copa America clash was four years ago and it ended goalless.

Argentina grabbed seven points out of nine in the group stage but their performances were not too convincing. The defence was spot on as they haven't conceded any goals in the three group matches but the attacking efforts were mediocre at best, despite the huge names in the starting eleven. Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain and Angel di Maria only managed to score four goals in the group stage.

Colombia have not been impressive in attack either as they scored just one goal in the group stage. That goal gave them a victory over Brazil but they lost 1-0 to Venezuela and were held to a goalless draw by Peru. Colombia have their own big names in attack, including James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez. The Colombian fans want to see Falcao on the bench and Martinez in the starting eleven but coach Jose Pekerman might stick to his plan.

Probable line-ups:

Argentina: Romero - Rojo, Otamendi, Garay, Zabaleta - Biglia, Pastore, Mascherano - Di Maria, Aguero, Messi

Colombia: Ospina - Murillo, Zapata, Armero, Arias - Valencia, Sanchez, Rodriguez, Cuadrado, Gutierrez - Falcao

My prediction: Argentina to win 1-0.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Argentina win - 1.90 Draw - 3.40 Colombia win - 4.75
