Back Copa America: Bolivia vs Peru preview

Two of the tournament's surprise teams will clash on Friday morning when Bolivia take on Peru in the quarter-finals. Both sides finished second in their respective groups. The last four games between the two sides all ended in draws. Peru have the better overall record, they have beaten Bolivia on 22 occasions and were defeated 13 times. Their last direct encounter in the Copa America was in 2007, it ended 2-2 with Claudio Pizarro scoring both goals for Peru.

Bolivia had a surprisingly good run in the group stage, especially considering that they hadn't won a single Copa America match since 1997. Moreover, they hadn't won a match away from La Paz in over 20 years. They started the group stage with a goalless draw with Mexico, then beat Ecuador 3-2 before being thrashed by Chile 5-0. However, coach Mauricio Soria had made some line-up changes for the match against Chile, now he will most likely revert to his usual eleven.

Peru pulled off an unlikely feat in the group stage, finishing second in a pool that contained both Brazil and Colombia. They nearly grabbed a draw against Brazil but were beaten 2-1 with a stoppage-time goal while against Colombia they held out for a goalless draw. The result that made all the difference was the 1-0 win over Venezuela, thanks to a goal from Claudio Pizarro.

Probable line-ups:

Bolivia: Quinonez - Hurtado, Raldes, Zenteno, Morales - Smedberg, Bejerano, Chumacero, Escobar, Pedriel - Martins

Peru: Gallese - Advincula, Zambrano, Ascues, Vargas - Lobaton, Cueva, Sanchez, Ballon - Pizarro, Guerrero

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Bolivia win - 4.75 Draw - 3.30 Peru win - 1.95
