Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was given a standing ovation by Chelsea fans on Sunday when the Reds secured a 1-1 draw at Stamford bridge. The captain scored the equaliser for Liverpool but played down the significance of the courteous gesture from the rival fans.
"I was more happy with the ovation from the Liverpool fans," said Gerrard. "Chelsea fans have had respect for a couple of seconds today but have slaughtered me all game. I'm not going to get drawn into wishing Chelsea fans well. It was nice of them to turn up for once today. It was a nice touch. I know they've absolutely murdered me for years because I never signed here. I've had great support from the Liverpool fans - that's all that matters to me."
Steven Gerrard has been a favourite target from Chelsea fans for a few years now. The Blues have attempted to sign him on three occasions while last season an error from Gerrard allowed Chelsea to score and Manchester City won the Premier League title at the expense of the Reds. About Jose Mourinho, Gerrard said: "I have huge respect for him. He's the best manager in the world. I would have signed for him on three occasions if I wasn't such a big Liverpool fan. He's the reason my head was turned on a couple of occasions but he knew why I couldn't do it, because I love Liverpool Football Club. It always means more when you win for your people."
Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and the Reds are 12/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title without their captain.

Steven Gerrard is great player, He won Champions league and a lot of other trophies but he didn't success to win Premier League and this is dark side of his career and because of that he can't be the greatest player ever played in Liverpool. But he is great and I see that fans from all stadium recognize and give ovation...

I have a lot of respect for Steven Gerrard. I was growing up watching him playing and that match in final of Champions League against Milan is the best football match I ever seen. Steven Gerrard deserve all the respect for his decision to stay with Liverpool all this years despite the offers from the richest clubs in England and Europe. It's a nice gesture from the Chelsea fans, standing ovation for the Liverpool captain- what can I say, it's only possible on the Albion.

Steven Gerrard is example for all kids that want to become a world famous footballers some day. He is good when he is on field, and maybe even better as human. Also, I want to congratulate to Chelsea's fans for this ovation intended for Gerrard. Maybe some of you remember when Alex Del Piero got the same standing ovation...

Someone once said: When fans of your club worship you,then you are good...but when fans of rival club appreciate you,then you are a legend! It is obvious that Gerrard is a true legend. I really wont be happy when I see someone else walking into Anfield court in front of other players with Captains mark on his arm.

Steven Gerrard is great player and big man and I think that he know what to do. Of course that he won't be thrilled with ovation of opponents fans special when that same fans were torture him all that years only because he stay loyal to his team. But it was nice from Chelsea's fans to give respect on that way.

He is pure legend.Steve G,Del Piero and especially Francesco Totti are the players that will be respected everywhere and always for their loyalty to their club.This thing yesterday,it is a nice move from Chelsea fans.They gave big ovations to Gerrard and they are sure that he really deserved it.
