Back Premier League: Aston Villa vs QPR preview

A crucial survival battle takes place on Tuesday as Aston Villa welcome Queens Park Rangers to Villa Park. This match could decide the fate of these two relegation-threatened teams as only three points separate them with six matches remaining. QPR defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at Loftus Road in October, with Charlie Austin bagging both goals. However, QPR haven't won at Villa Park in the league since 1992.

Aston Villa are just above the bottom three, but a defeat would drag them into the drop zone as they only have a two-point gap over 18th-placed Burnley. Tim Sherwood's men were defeated by Swansea and Manchester United in the last two matches and they will have to face tough sides next like Tottenham, Manchester City, Everton, West Ham United and Southampton. Alan Hutton, Scott Sinclair and Ashley Westwood are injured for the home side while Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson might recover just in time.

QPR's survival hopes received a huge boost last weekend after they ended a five-match losing streak with a convincing 4-1 success at West Brom. QPR will also face big teams like Chelsea, West Ham, Liverpool and Manchester City in their next matches, so the clash with Aston Villa becomes even more important. However, they have not won two consecutive games games all season. Alejandro Faurlin, Richard Dunne and Leroy Fer are injured for QPR while Eduardo Vargas is in doubt.

Probable line-ups:

Aston Villa: Guzan - Baker, Vlaar, Clark, Lowton - N'Zogbia, Gil, Delph, Weimann - Benteke, Agbonlahor

QPR: Green - Isla, Onuoha, Caulker, Yoon - Phillips, Barton, Sandro, Kranjcar - Austin, Zamora

My prediction: 1-1 draw.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Aston Villa win - 23/20 Draw - 12/5 QPR win - 14/5
