Back Formula 1: Fernando Alonso set for Malaysian Grand Prix return

It is now certain that Fernando Alonso will fly to Malaysia for the Grand Prix on 29 March. The decision comes after the driver had several tests to establish whether he has recovered from concussion. The Spaniard missed the first race of the season in Australia after suffering a crash in pre-season testing runs.

Luis Garcia Abad, a personal adviser to Alonso, refused to confirm reports in Spain that Alonso had got the all-clear after the tests. "It is private so I cannot confirm or deny it, but I have no doubts he will go to Malaysia as planned," he said.

The tests on Alonso were conducted by an independent board of three physicians at Cambridge University, set up by Formula 1's governing body as an extra medical panel when required. The McLaren driver will have to go through further tests when he arrives at the Sepang circuit but it is believed that he will be fit to race at the weekend.

If he does pass the tests and then win the Malaysian GP he could make a few punters rich as the odds on him to win the race are at 500/1 at Bet365.
