Back UEFA Europa League: Inter Milan vs Wolfsburg preview

Inter Milan face an uphill struggle when they host Wolfsburg for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday. The Germans clinched a solid 3-1 win at home last week, even though Inter had taken the lead early on. The hopes of qualifying for the Champions League through their Serie A placement are all but over for Roberto Mancini, so they might do everything that they can to advance in the Europa League. Inter are currently 12 points behyind third-placed Lazio after three games without a win.

Last time out Inter were held to a 1-1 draw by Cesena at San Siro. They have done well at home in Europe though, with seven wins and four draws in their last eleven matches. Wolfsburg have been quite impressive lately though, with just one defeat in their last 21 competitive matches and also with 16 wins during that streak.

Wolfsburg are firmly in second place behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, mostly thanks to striker Bas Dost who bagged 15 goals in 21 appearances. The Germans are also unbeaten in their last three away matches in Europe. Wolfsburg will be without Naldo, who is suspended, while Aaron Hunt is injured. Inter will have to do without Yuto Nagatomo due to a thigh injury.

Probable line-ups:

Inter Milan: Carrizo - D'Ambrosio, Ranocchia, Juan, Santon - Guarin, Medel, Hernanes - Icardi, Shaqiri, Palacio

Wolfsburg: Benaglio - Vierinha, Klose, Knoche, Rodriguez - Guilavogui, Luiz Gustavo - Caligiuri, De Bruyne, Schurrle - Dost

My prediction: 1-1 draw.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Inter win - 7/4 Draw - 13/5 Wolfsburg win - 13/8
