Back UEFA Champions League: Atletico Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen preview

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid will have to overturn a one-goal deficit when they face Bayer Leverkusen at the Vicente Calderon in the last-16 of the Champions League on Tuesday. The German side have clinched a somewhat surprising 1-0 victory in the first leg, thanks to a goal from Hakan Calhanoglu.

Atletico have not been particularly impressive lately, they were held to three consecutive draws in the Primera Liga. Until now Atletico have been able to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the Champions League on two occasions and they have a good record at home: 20 wins out of their last 22 European matches.

Leverkusen will surely be full of confidence after having recorded a 4-0 victory over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga last week. They have won their last four matches, including the first leg triumph over Atletico. Leverkusen could be without midfielder Lars Bender while Atletico will be missing both Diego Godin and Tiago Mendes through suspension.

Probable line-ups:

Atletico Madrid: Moya - Juanfran, Ansaldi, Miranda, Gamez - Gabi, Tiago, Koke, Garcia, Griezmann - Torres

Bayer Leverkusen: Leno - Hilbert, Toprak, Papadopoulos, Wendell - Rolfes, Castro, Bellarabi, Son, Calhanoglu - Drmic

My prediction: Atletico to win 1-0 (after 90 minutes)

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Atletico win - 8/11 Draw - 14/5 Leverkusen win - 9/2
