India Cracking Down on Illegal Horse Racing Industry
This week, India's Home Minister KJ George warned that authorities will be cracking down on the growing illegal online horserace betting industry. Serious action will be taken against illegal gambling centers that open near colleges and residential areas according to senior member Vimala Gowda. “Lives of our students and youths are being systematically destroyed with these illegal gambling centres which stream the races live online. Many senior police officers and politicians are hand in glove with these gambling mafia,” Gowda said. Gowda is seeking the withdrawal of permissions granted to off-course betting centers on the basis that they draw in the young and the poor. The India Government's attempt to relocate a city racecourse outside of the city has made it to the Supreme Court.
