Back Premier League: Tim Sherwood in pole position for QPR job

Tim Sherwood seems to be the most likely candidate to become the next Queens Park Rangers manager. Derby manager Steve McClaren and Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement are also believed to be considered to replace Harry Redknapp, who resigned on Tuesday. QPR chairman Tony Fernandes says that he would like to bring in a young manager that could help the club raise its own young talents.

The club are aiming to appoint a new manager by the time they play at Hull City on 21 February. Before then they have to play against Southampton and Sunderland on 7 and 10 February. Tim Sherwood has been without a job since May 2014 when he was sacked by Tottenham after just five months in charge. Steve McClaren is familiar with the club, as he was a coach at QPR under Harry Redknapp. However, he is currently employed at Derby, who have a real chance of getting promoted to the Premier League.

Paul Clement, aged 43, has been assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, Paris St-Germain and at Real Madrid. His father, Dave Clement, has played for QPR in the 1960s and 1970s. Meanwhile former player Les Ferdinand has been appointed as director of football. He was part of Tim Sherwood's staff at Totttenham. "I've been really impressed with the job Les has done in his short time here," said Tony Fernandes. "As such I am keen for his role to evolve, with the clear mandate of assisting us in developing and evolving the footballing department, from the academy to the first team. We want to develop a philosophy of buying young, hungry players, who can go on to forge decent careers with us."

QPR are 6/4 at Bet365 to avoid relegation this season.
