Back Premier League: Paul Lambert confident that Aston Villa will stay up

Aston Villa were thrashed 5-0 by Arsenal on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium but manager Paul Lambert says his team have enough quality to avoid relegation. Villa are just three points above the relegation zone at the moment.

"We have definitely got enough to stay up," Lambert said. "If we can do one or two signings then we will try. I am looking for anybody who can improve the side." They have not won any of their last eight league matches and have also gone 612 minutes without scoring a goal. That is the seventh-longest goal drought in Premier League history.

Arsenal opened the scoring through Olivier Giroud after just eight minutes and Villa managed to stay in the game until the 56th minute when Mesut Ozil doubled the home side's lead. "For 60 minutes or so we were in the game," Lambert told Sky Sports after the game. "It is disappointing, when you don't score you don't win games. You have to keep working hard in training and hopefully it turns around. We came into this game with confidence after last week and we have to keep our confidence up."

Aston Villa are currently 4/11 at Bet365 to avoid relegation this season.
