Back Capital One Cup: Tottenham vs Sheffield United preview

League One side Sheffield United face a tough task at White Hart Lane in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi final on Wednesday night, especially after losing 1-0 at MK Dons last weekend. However, cup games are a different story and Nigel Clough's team have proven that they can play well above their rank in such fixtures. They have beaten West Ham United and then Southampton en route to the last four. Last season they have reached the semi finals of the FA Cup after beating the likes of Aston Villa and Fulham.

Tottenham are in good shape lately, they have lost just one of their last ten games in all competitions. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino might try to rotate his players as they are still involved in the Europa League as well. That means players like Eric Dier or Ben Devies might be given starting places, along with Benjamin Stambouli.

Nigel Clough doesn't have such a big squad to choose from, so he will most likely stick to his regular starting eleven. The two sides have met at White Hart lane in 2006 and the Spurs won 2-0 thanks to goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jermaine Jenas.

Probable line-ups:

Spurs: Lloris - Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Davies - Stambouli, Dembele - Townsend, Eriksen, Chadli - Kane

Sheff Utd: Howard - Harris, McEveley, Kennedy, Alcock - Reed, Doyle - Muprhy, Baxter, Campbell-Ryce - McNulty

My prediction: Tottenham to win 2-0.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Tottenham win - 1/3 Draw - 19/4 Sheffield United win - 9/1
