Back Premier League: Arsene Wenger delighted with victory at Manchester City

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is pleased that the Gunners' victory over Manchester City last weekend has answered doubts about their defence and ability to defeat top clubs away from home. Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud scored in Arsenal's 2-0 at City, in a fixture that last season ended with a 6-3 win for the Citizens.

"I am very pleased because our defence have been questioned a lot," Wenger said after the match. "The target was to put it right, and to win a big game away in the league which we've not done this season." The result moved Arsenal up to fifth place in the Premier League table, just one point away from the Champions League places. As for Manchester City, the defeat allowed Chelsea to build a five-point gap at the top of the rankings.

That was the seventh clean sheet for Arsenal in 22 league matches this season. "People are very quick on their judgement and forget that we had many defenders out all season," added Wenger, who employed Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as central defenders at the Etihad Stadium. "As you saw the centre-backs are a good partnership and it takes time to get back to that level. To come out of a game like that without conceding a goal is important."

Arsenal are 2/5 at Bet365 to clinch a top-four finish this season.
