Back Premier League: Aston Villa vs Liverpool preview

Aston Villa take on in-form Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, a tough test for the Reds in their attempt to move closer to the top four. They have won three of their last four games and moved up to eighth spot in the Premier League table but they will need more wins in order to achieve Champions League qualification. Last week Liverpool defeated Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light thanks to Lazar Markovic's first goal for the club. Adam Lallana could be back to full fitness after recovering from a thigh problem

Aston Villa had a great start to the season, they even defeated Liverpool at Anfield 1-0, but things went downhill since then for Paul Lambert's men. They have grabbed just 12 points since that match, which was in September, and scored just seven goals in seventeen games. The poor streak dropped them to 13th place in the Premier League table, just three points above the relegation zone.

Lambert made a move on the transfer market by bringing in Carles Gil from Valencia, a 22-year-old Spanish playmaker that could improve the side's creativity. Ciaran Clark is banned for the match while Ron Vlaar and Philippe Senderos are injured. Liverpool have Daniel Sturridge, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan back in training but they are not yet ready to play while Joe Allen is still injured. An interesting fact is that the home team have not won any of the last seven matches between these two clubs.

Probable line-ups:

Aston Villa: Guzan - Hutton, Okore, Baker, Cissokho - Westwood, Cleverley, Delph - Agbonlahor, Benteke, Weimann

Liverpool: Mignolet - Can, Skrtel, Sakho - Manquillo, Henderson, Lucas, Moreno - Coutinho, Markovic, Sterling

My prediction: Liverpool to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Aston Villa win - 7/2 Draw - 13/5 Liverpool win - 10/11
