Back Premier League: Manchester United sign goalkeeper Victor Valdes

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes will join Manchester United on a free transfer. He has been training with the Red Devils in order to recover from a very bad knee injury that kept him out of contention for the World Cup. The Spanish international has agreed an 18-month contract.

Valdes, aged 32, won six La Liga and three Champions League titles with Barcelona. He left the club at the end of last season when his contract expired. Valdes' arrival might mean that reserve goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard might leave the Red Devils. First-choice goalkeeper David De Gea, aged 24, will most likely keep his place between the sticks but his contract will expire in 2016.

Manchester United are currently third in the Premier League, nine points behind joint leaders Chelsea and Manchester City. De Gea has played in every match for the Red Devils this season but conceded four goals in the shock League Cup defeat at MK Dons in August and five in the Premier League loss to Leicester on 21 September. Lindegaard has made just 19 Premier League appearances since joining the club in 2011.

Manchester United are 20/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.
