Former NBA commissioner, David Stern, has supported current commissioner, Adam Silver's campaign to increase legalized sports betting across the United States.
In September 2014, Silver said that the introduction of sports betting was “inevitable” as a result of suffering state budgets and support from American citizens.
He also proposed a partnership with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie due to his efforts to roll out a legalized service in the state.
Stern spoke to CNBC and said, “Once daily fantasy became an acceptable exception to the law against gambling, I think that's gambling, so now I think the best approach would be, as Adam Silver has advocated, is for there to be federal regulation.”
“Bring the sports leagues in. If it's going to happen, because it has happened anyway by justice department rulings and the like, you should make it legal and you should regulate it as tightly as you possibly can.”
