Back Virtual Sports Becoming More Popular than Ever

The virtual sports betting industry has significantly grown in popularity resulting in numerous companies offering virtual sports products according to NBC.

Technological improvements to the features have attracted more gamblers to this form of gambling.

Phil Hudson of Pinnacle Sports told NBC: “E-sports is definitely our fastest area of growth. It's quite big in Asia and Eastern Europe, but e-sports is really a phenomenon across the world.”

Although not quite as popular as soccer or American football, Pinnacle has seen 350,000 e-sports bets throughout 2014 putting it at number eight on the list of popular sports.

NBC reported that the stakes are fairly small in e-sports with the winning team of the 2014 “League of Legends” championship taking $1 million in prize money as compared to what soccer star Ronaldo is paid for one game.

Electronic Sports League (ESL) spokesperson, Anna Rozwandowicz, said, “We do not allow betting on games of a league the betting player is taking part in, and betting against yourself or your own team leads inevitably to disqualification.”

She also said that ESL is “...striving to make this a rule in all leagues not only run by us, but to make it an industry standard.”
