Back Premier League: Manuel Pellegrini keeps calm after dropped points

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini remained reasonably calm after his team threw away a two-goal lead to record a 2-2 home draw against Burnley on Sunday. Pellegrini said his players might have "thought the game was over" when they were leading 2-0. George Boyd and Ashley Barnes scored for the Clarets who snatched a point at the Etihad Stadium. The result ended City's nine-match winning streak and keeps them three points behind leaders Chelsea.

"Until the last whistle the game is never finished," Pellegrini said. "Maybe winning 2-0 we thought the game was over. Burnley's first goal is a mistake by the referee but these things happen. In the second half our legs were suffering."

City have now dropped seven points at home this season, two more than the entire campaign last season when they won the title. Also, in the 2011-2012 season they won all but one home matches en route to the Premier League title. Pellegrini is still optimistic though. "We are three points behind the leaders with a good amount of points," he said. "Now we must play as well in the second half of the season as we have done in the first."

Manchester City are currently 5/2 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.
