Premier League: Don't call me manager, says Gus Poyet
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet insists his job should be called "head coach" and not "manager", thus criticising the club's transfer movements. The Uruguayan coach had publicly expressed his frustration about the lack of quality in his squad. The Black Cats are currently 15th in the Premier League table. "I am a head coach," Poyet said. "I am not going to be a head coach when it suits and a manager when it doesn't. That side is down to recruitment." Last summer Sunderland made seven signings, including high-profile players like Jack Rodwell, Jordi Gomez and Ricky Alvarez. Despite the strengthening the club have not managed a win in six games and have just one victory since October. Poyet expects more signings in Janyary, but suggested that he will have little to do with the wheeling and dealing, as sporting director Lee Congerton leads a continental scouting system at the club. "I want more quality. Do I think I'll get it? I don't know," said Poyet. "You know what is missing. It is clear what we need to do. That is down to recruitment. So, if you ever get the chance to speak to anyone on the recruitment side and ask them about it, you are lucky. If you don't, don't ask me." Sunderland are currently 1/5 at Bet365 to avoid relegation this season.
