Back UEFA Champions League: Manchester City vs Bayern Munich preview

Manchester City need to grab all three points against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday in order to keep their slim hopes of qualifying from Group E alive. On the other hand the visitors can rest some players as they have already secured top spot in the group with 12 points from the first four games.

Pep Guardiola's side are on an 18-match unbeaten run, which includes a narrow 1-0 win over the Premier League champions in their opening group match. Bastian Schweinsteiger could feature at the Etihad Stadium after coming off the bench for his first moments on the pitch since injuring his knee during the 4-0 Bundesliga win over Hoffenheim last weekend. Philipp Lahm will miss out as he is sidelined until next year with an ankle injury, his names adds to the list of long-term absentees alongside Javi Martinez,Pepe Reina and Thiago Alcantara.

Manuel Pellegrini's side must beat Bayern to stay in the qualification race but that's not enough as they must also hope that the other Group E match ends in a draw. Manchester City are currently bottom of the group table, with two draws and two defeats. Yaya Toure and Fernandinho are both suspended for Tuesday's match but Vincent Kompany is available. David Silva and Edin Dzeko are both doubts after missing last weekend's Premier League match.

Probable starting line-ups:

Man City: Hart - Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Sagna - Clichy, Nasri, Navas, Milner - Aguero, Jovetic

Bayern Munich: Neuer - Benatia, Boateng, Alaba, Rafinha - Schweinsteiger, Alonso, Bernat - Gotze, Ribery, Lewandowski

My prediction: Bayern to win 2-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Man City win - 12/5 Draw - 11/4 Bayern win - 23/20
