Back Primera Liga: Cristiano Ronaldo denies Messi nickname claims

Cristiano Ronaldo has denied claims that he has an offensive and even obscene nickname for Lionel Messi. That claim was made in a new book about the Barcelona star, suggesting that Ronaldo often refers to Messi with an offensive nickname. That claim adds to several rumours of tensions between the two rival players.

"This is absolutely false and I have assured my lawyer takes action to sue those responsible," Cristiano Ronaldo wrote on his Facebook page. "I have the utmost respect for all my professional colleagues, and Messi is obviously no exception."

Ronaldo claimed the Ballon d'Or last year, ending Messi's run of three consecutive awards. The two players are split by just one goal in their attempts to become the all-time record goalscorer in the Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 71st goal last week, moving level with former Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez. Lionel Messi on the other hand needs just two more goals to become the all-time top scorer in the Primera Liga. The Argentinian has 250 goals in 285 games while Ronaldo is ninth on the Primera Liga all-time scorers list.

This season Ronaldo has scored 18, while Messi bagged 7. Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or this year, 1/8 at Bet365, while Lionel Messi is 7/1 to win the award.
