Tabcorp Fights for Restriction of Offshore Bookies in Australia
Paula Dwyer, CEO of Australian betting giant Tabcorp, announced that the company is currently discussing blocking offshore online gambling operators with the Australian national government. Dwyer says this must be done in order to protect Aussie consumers, protect tax revenues and the integrity of sports events plus prevent Australian cash from going toward wagers outside of the country. "There are estimates that as much as 14 percent of betting by Australian-based customers is conducted with operators who are not licensed in Australia,” Dwyer said. Wagers going to foreign bookies hurts both the industry and the economy. The discussions are underway and may result in ISP blocking etc.
