Back Premier League: Raheem Sterling will stay at Liverpool, says Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists Raheem Sterling is staying at Liverpool and that the young player will sign a new contract in the near future. Negotiations for that new deal have been taking place for quite some time now and Sterling has been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

When asked if he thinks Sterling wanted to stay at Anfield, Rodgers said: "Yes. Absolutely adamant. I don't think there is anything other than that. His agent is a good agent and he understands this is the perfect place for him." The manager is confident a deal will be agreed sooner rather than later and added: "It's not a big issue for us. Ian Ayre has spoken with his representatives and he is quite relaxed. The club is dealing with the agent so everything is calm."

"The boy is remarkably happy here and there are no secondary thoughts about anything else other than continuing to play for Liverpool," Rodgers added. "Also, to continue with his development because he still has a lot of growth and for that the best place for him to be is here. His representatives respect that and the club respects that. So that will get sorted out in time." Liverpool have offered a new contract with a salary increase to around £50,000 a week, but it seems they are prepared to double that offer. Daniel Sturridge has recently signed a new five-year deal with a salary of £150,000 a week.

Liverpool are 33/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League this season.
