Back Premier League: Club chief predicts "bright future" for Manchester United

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward says Manchester United are ready to achieve "something special". Woodward was speaking to investors after the club announced record annual revenues, up by 19% to 433.2 million pounds. However, profits fell by a staggering 84%. "The 2013-14 season was challenging and disappointing," he said. "But we are excited to have one of world's best managers, there is a real feeling we are at the start of something special."

Woodward also revealed the club had built their budget previsioning a third-place finish in the Premier League. The fall in profits was mostly due to United's owners cashing in a tax credit in the previous financial year. Woodward focused on the revenue rise and commercial income that has also gone up by 24.1% following confirmation of a new shirt manufacturing deal with Adidas .

The club have made a £150m investment in six new players this summer, including Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao. There will most likely be some new signings in January as well, with AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman believed to be on manager Louis van Gaal's shortlist if he recovers from a serious knee surgery.

Manchester United face QPR at Old Trafford on Sunday and they are 1/4 at Bet365 to win that match, that would be their first Premier League victory of the season.
